Nic Cage has released plenty of bad movies over the course of career, but these past few years he seems to have established a new tradition of clustering them during the first few months of the year. Ghost Rider? Bad Nic Cage, came out in February. Bad Lieutenant? Good Nic Cage, came out in November. Kick-Ass? Goofy but awesome Cage, came out in April. Drive Angry? Insane and awful Nic Cage, came out in February. Sure, this might be simply a case of bad movies naturally flocking to the cinematic hospice that is January and February, but I like to think it's intentional. Not so much as a warning, but as an invitation. Because let's face it, Nic Cage is often at his very best when he's at his very worst.

In fact, this year he gave us the gift of not one, but two stinkers to welcome in the new year. We not only got Nic Cage as a fugitive from Hell in Drive Angry -- IN 3D!!! -- but we also got Nic Cage as Teutonic knight in Season of the Witch. If ever there was a pairing just begging to become a midnight double-feature, this is it.

Well, you won't have to wait long. Drive Angry is due on Blu-ray and DVD May 31st, and now Fox Home Entertainment has announced a June 28th release for Season of the Witch. The medieval tale, which teams Cage up with Ron Perlman as a pair of knights attempting to protect a young woman accused of being a witch, will include an alternate ending, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and more. The Blu-ray version will also include audio commentaries, although the press release doesn't specify who will appear in them.

Pick up Season of the Witch this summer, celebrate Bad Nic Cage, and let's hope he provides us with something even worse next year!
