Was Nim's Island Always Destined For DVD?
Nim’s Island looked like it had a lot of potential, but it felt like the adventure was almost over before it began. I’m sure low ranking reviews (like ours) probably didn’t help. Still, I can’t help feeling this movie has an audience out there. Obviously Fox thinks so too, since they have put a fair amount of effort into the DVD release.
The DVD and Blu-ray release of Nim’s Island will hit shelves on August 5th and really looks like the kind of thing young girls can play over and over again, driving parents into the depths of insanity as they recite lines along with the film. And hey, when they get older, there’s the rugged Gerard Butler to usher them into their teenage years.
The DVD includes an interesting choice for the movie – a commentary from stars Jodie Foster and Abigail Breslin. Maybe I’m jumping to a judgment too quickly, but it sort of reminds me of the idea of the commentary on The Princess Diaries where Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway had tea. Can’t you see Breslin and Foster enjoying some sort of girl-time together as they watch the movie and talk about how much fun it was to make… and how entertained the movie’s target audience will be watching that over and over just like the regular version of the movie?
