There's an all new piece of merchandise coming for gamers in February, 2017. The merchandise will definitely change the way you view The Legend of Zelda franchise because it will mean you'll no longer have to head to Wikipedia for information.
The news was posted by Twitter user Nore139 recently, indicating that the Legend of Zelda Hyrule Encyclopedia will be available starting February 2nd, 2017 next year.
The Hyrule Encyclopedia comes at a time where it will launch ahead of the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the Wii U and Nintendo Switch. It will give fans of the series a huge list of information to soak in as part of the 30th anniversary commemoration of the long-running franchise.
This will be a great alternative for people who don't always want to rely on Wikipedia for their information regarding characters, content or stories taking place within the Legend of Zelda universe. There's also a very thorough compendium for each game across various Wiki fan-sites, but it can still be a hassle to navigate those sites. The Hyrule Encyclopedia would give you everything you need to know about Nintendo's prime time franchise without having to venture into the deepest recesses of the internet and forum boards in order to find out what you need to know.
This comes at a perfect time, too, as lots of gamers will likely want to brush up on their history of the series now that Breath of the Wild is gearing up for release sometime next year. Reports are a bit hazy, but some still think that the upcoming Legend of Zelda title will be a launch game for the Nintendo Switch, in which case if you get the encyclopedia now you'll be primed and ready for the game's launch in March of 2017. However, some other reports indicate that Breath of the Wild could be delayed beyond the launch window of the Nintendo Switch, in which case you wouldn't need to be in such a rush to brush up on your knowledge of the kingdom of Hyrule.
They don't go into detail about what's all contained within the encyclopedia, but I do wonder if the English version will launch on February 2nd alongside the Japanese version of the book? Also, I'm curious if this will also detail many of the game's mechanical aspects... such as the different kinds of Master Swords Link has used throughout the ages? Or if they will detail the different kinds of shields and eateries at his disposal?
There's a heck of a lot potential for something like the Hyrule Encyclopedia because there's a ton of information surrounding this 30-year-old franchise. It spans multiple systems, a short-lived television show, and even some interactive animated features on the CD-I. Hopefully, Nintendo doesn't skip out on some of those important milestones in the franchise's history, because Link: The Faces of Evil is now a mimetic classic.
Anyway, I'm sure Nintendo will have news about the encyclopedia ahead of its release and I wouldn't be surprised if they mentioned it in some capacity during the Nintendo Switch on January 12th.
