Ashlee Simpson Goes Hollywood

Taking stock in Ashlee Simpson's career to date, you have one short stint in a side role on "Seventh Heaven", one failed reality show and one botched singing career (ruined not by her SNL debacle but her general lack of talent). It's obvious what her next move should be: make a feature film.

Hot on the heels of her sister's cinematic debut, Ashlee has landed a role in a movie that will likely cement her as the stereotypical one movie wonder singer turned wannabe-actress. Undiscovered, written by first timer John Galt and directed by second timer Meiert Avis (his first film was 1989's lamely creepy Far From Home), looks like another opentake on the "finding yourself" kind of film in the grand tradition of Britney Spear's Crossroads and Hilary Duff's Raise Your Voice. Don't take my word for it, though. Enjoy the film's convoluted synopsis straight from the official web site.

The cast of Undiscovered stars Pell James, Steven Strait (who debuts in the upcoming Sky High), Kip Pardue (who also played a minor role on "Seventh Heaven") and Carrie Fisher (who really deserves better than this). Is it any wonder the project's working title was Wannabe?

If you think maybe I'm being a little harsh, watch the trailer. The links are below. After watching them you may want to keep on laughing. There's a link for that too. For the full effect check out the sappy sepia poster. Undiscovered opens August 26.
