Becker Directs My Samurai

If you’re going to sign yourself into a life of servitude, working for Disney is probably one of the better gigs. That’s close to the position Walt Becker is in. The Wild Hogs director has signed a first-look deal with Disney, giving them first rights to produce his projects. It looks like he’s already started with the first project before the ink dries.

First up in the Disney/Becker deal: My Samurai. The Becker directed movie will be about an American businessman saves the life of a homeless man in Japan who turns out to be the last in a line of samurai. The businessman returns home to find other samurai showing up at his door to pledge their loyalty. For some reason that storyline and the fact that Becker directed Wild Hogs makes this sound like a Tim Allen vehicle to me.

Speaking of Wild Hogs, Becker is currently at work on a sequel to the film and will also be directing Old Dogs with John Travolta and Robin Williams as two men who are put in charge of 7-year-old twins.

The movies might sound a little questionable in quality, but it sounds like Walt Becker has found himself in quite a cushy position. Of course, he’ll have to put out some decent movies to maintain that position, but My Samurai sounds like it has a little bit of potential with the right cast.
