New Brave Trailer Showcases Magic, Adventure, Fate And Family

Every time I think I couldn't be more eager to see Pixar's Brave, another trailer shows up online to prove me wrong and heighten my anticipation. This latest one further introduces us to the story's heroine, Merida, and gives us a glimpse of the adventure that awaits her.

If you had the chance to change your fate, would you? That's the question Merida (Kelly Macdonald) asks in the latest trailer for the upcoming animated film Brave. The story is set in the highlands of Scotland and follows the daughter of King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). As you'll see in the trailer, Merida is not content to sit back and watch her life happen around her.

Here it is, courtesy of iTunes (opens in new tab):

Like the last trailer released, this one gives us a look at the archery competition, but takes it further by showing us the spell, and the moment when Merida asks for her fate to be changed.

We're also introduced to Merida's family, as the trailer gives us a look at what life is like at home for her. I think this is where this movie may really hit home, as viewers (girls especially) might really connect with Merida and the way she views her family and her life. What teenage girl hasn't questioned her fate and her place in the world? And the way Merida scoffs and rolls her eyes at her mother, while Elinor ponders what's become of the "precious daughter" she once knew, further demonstrates that behind this fairytale, there may be characters we can really relate to here. Brave appears to be as much a story about growing up and finding ones own identity as it is about adventure and a girl who wants to change her fate.

The trailer also reminds us that this is coming from the people that brought us Up, Toy Story and Wall-E, which seems almost unnecessary, and by that point I was mostly distracted by the music shift. Between the adventurous sounding score at the beginning, and the slower, more folksy tune that played during the second half, Brave may prove to have a pretty fantastic soundtrack.

And then there's the tagline: "In every age family is king, and the bravest journeys are never taken alone."

Is it June yet?

Brave arrives in theaters June 22. More information, photos and videos can be found in our Blend Film Database.
