Captain America: Civil War is just one week away, and fans are eager to finally see the ensemble cast assembled. Seeing the myriad heroes which have been introduced over the course of nearly a decade together will surely be satisfying, especially when they’re kicking each other’s asses. Of course, there are a few notable absences from Civil War, one of which is Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner aka The Hulk. We last saw The Hulk piloting the Quinjet to a mystery location after battling Ultron. Now the question is: where the heck is The Hulk during the events of Civil War?
Marvel seems to be aware of this concern, and has addressed it through its WHIH Newsfront twitter account, hinting at a possible plot line for Captain America: Civil War. Check out the tweet below.
The WHIH Newsfront is a news program in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show is led by the character Christine Everhart, who previously appeared in both Iron Man and Iron Man 2. Marvel uses WHIH as a webseries and twitter account to tie together various happenings in the MCU, as well as to further promote the newest movies being released. In this case, Civil War.
Having Hulk’s disappearance addressed through the WHIH Newsfront makes me think that the subject may be a subplot in Captain America: Civil War. While Mark Ruffalo is not set to physically appear in the film, Hulk must be mentioned at least a few times in the movie. When both Tony Stark and Steve Rogers are assembling their respective teams, they must want the big guy on their side. Having The Hulk on their squad would effectively end the conflict, with their team most likely winning. I can’t imagine that Stark isn’t going to use his resources in an attempt to find and recruit Bruce Banner.
While we won’t be seeing The Hulk in Captain America: Civil War, he is coming back to the MCU soon. Mark Ruffalo is set to co-star in Thor: Ragnarok alongside Thor actor Chris Hemsworth. Teased as a superheroic buddy comedy, the two strongest members of The Avengers will presumably fight some serious bad guys together, including Cate Blanchett. While we’ll surely miss them in Civil War, we do have that adventure to look forward to.
What do you think of Hulk’s absence in Captain America: Civil War? Should it be addressed during the film, or simply stated in passing? Sound off in the comments below.
Captain America: Civil War will fly into theaters May 6th. The Hulk will next be seen when Thor: Ragnarok is released November 3rd, 2017.
