Danny Trejo Delivers Street Justice In Bad Ass Trailer, Based On A Viral Video

Proving that you can make a movie out of virtually anything, SlashFilm shares the trailer for Danny Trejo’s latest butt-kicking spoof, a feature film based on a viral video that made the rounds in 2010. We have it below, and it truly needs to be seen to be believed:

I know what you’re thinking. This could be a spoof trailer sandwiched in the middle of a Grindhouse sequel. Then again, that worked for Machete, so why couldn’t it kick-start Bad Ass, as well?

But this clip also reeks of Jason Eisener’s Hobo With a Shotgun, an original feature based on the winning entry in a bogus trailer competition that resurrected the career of Rutger Hauer and (temporarily) lured grindhouse fans back to the theaters. In fact, it’s such a clone of Hobo, Eisener and his producers should be flattered. They also should sue.

It’s honestly hard to tell if this is a trailer for a legitimate feature, or if Trejo, Charles S. Dutton and Ron Perlman got together one afternoon to make a viral video clip for Funny Or Die. IMDB says the film was supposed to have a 2011 release date. That didn’t happen. And director Craig Moss’ credits are spoof shorts, from the 82-minute The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It to Saving Ryan’s Privates.

Maybe we’ll see Bad Ass in theaters next year. Maybe it will make the festival rounds before going to video. Or maybe it will just fade away. Here’s the viral clip that inspired Trejo’s spoof, with a disgruntled old man serving “justice” to a fellow bus patron who decided to get in his face.
