Fountain Answers From Aronofsky?

Anyone lucky enough to catch director Darren Aronofsky’s amazing, mind-bending, heart-wrenching movie The Fountain in theaters last year left their seat with a lot of questions. The film is wide open to interpretation, and while many people seem to think they have the whole thing figured out no one seems to be able to agree on which interpretation is correct.

That’s the way it’s supposed to be. Aronofsky has been adamant that he’s made the movie he wanted and he’s not going to make figuring it out easy for you. But he’s not above dropping a few hints.

If you picked up the disappointingly bare-bones release of the film on DVD, then you know there was no director’s commentary from Darren. He was ready and willing to do it, but for whatever reason Warner Brothers wasn’t interested. So rather than leaving fans high and dry, Aronofsky has released has done a Fountain directors commentary specifically for the internet. It’s online as an audio file here, and while at the outset he promises he’s not going to tell you what the movie’s about, but it’s impossible for him to talk about the movie in detail without giving attentive listeners a few clues about how he sees his challenging, three-part film.

If you’re a fan of The Fountain, or even one of those poor lost souls who just didn’t get it but wants to give the movie another chance, give Aronofsky’s commentary track a listen.
