Get Lost At The Movies

Lost co-creator JJ Abrams sat down with Josh Horowitz in an interview for MTV that ended up leading to an unexpected place… talks of a Lost movie! Although Abrams refers to his producer’s “instinct” and “gut” telling him “no,” he still entertains Horowitz in playing out a scenario in which the Lost film could happen.

When asked by Horowitz about whether or not he could picture doing a Lost film, Abrams told him that “My instinct is, [no], because that’s what they’re doing every week, a movie. It looks as big and had the emotional scope of a film. So, I can’t imagine that there would be, but you never know.” At least the producer has as much respect for the show as the fans do. Lost has always felt, and hopefully always will feel, like a movie.

Abrams admits that the thought has crossed his mind. He states “The one thing that makes you think maybe there could be [a movie], is that ABC agreed to end the series after six years. Which is a gift, because you know you won’t have years seven and eight where you’re thinking ‘they should’ve ended at year six,’ and you know how to pace yourself so that you know how to end the series.” This makes me feel extremely hopeful about next season, and the one after that. It sounds like the Lost clan has their plans laid out for them, with a scope that wouldn’t need to include a film.

But, what if it does? Abrams soothes that fear and claims, “The only reason why I think maybe there would be a movie is that, by doing that (which is hopefully the right way to go and that’s it) you do have that sense of, well, it didn’t go on any longer and therefore is there something else that you could do? So there’s a chance, but my gut is it would never happen.” So, if there is a need for things to be tied up, there will be a movie! Makes a girl feel torn! Part of me wants the show to land perfectly into well timed TV history, with no need for a film. The other part of me wants to see Sawyer on the big screen!

Check out the whole interview at MTV.com. Abrams talks Shatner, iPhones and Che. The banter between him and Horowitz is adorable.
