Meg Attacked By Rewrites

TV Guide has the latest word on the giant shark movie Meg, unfortunately you have to register with their website in order to read it. I did, and will no doubt now receive a copious amount of “Will & Grace” spam.

The Guide (the successful TV one, not the one that’s quietly flopping at the box office) interviewed Steve Alten, author of the original novel on which the unanticipated Meg movie is based. Where’s the $75 million dollar movie now? In the middle of script rewrites by Shane Salerno, who is also credited with work on the forthcoming Nick Cage flick Ghost Rider. In other words, they haven’t even started casting, let alone production. The film’s arrival in theaters may be a very distant thing. Truthfully, if you’re not a fan of CHUD.com (home of one of the film’s producers) do you care? I suppose someone must, or I wouldn’t bother covering it. There’s a market for anything, even Jurassic Park underwater. I once saw an underwater swimming pig. That was cool.

Alten goes on to reiterate that the movie will be good because the shark will be big “very big.” She’ll also be lily white, yet another subtle shot at the good black man.
