More Freaks Get Writing Gigs

I was just writing yesterday that Samm Levine had been one of the more unfortunately ignored Freaks and Geeks alums, but really, he's in fairly good company. John Francis Daley, who played terminally awkward Sam Weir on the show, has a steady role on Bones, but hasn't gotten the Apatow leg up that many of his co-stars had.

You won't be seeing Daley onscreen any time soon, but he and his writing partner Jonathan Goldstein seem to be getting a lot of work behind-the-scenes. Variety reports that the two have been brought on to rewrite the comedy script Burt Dickenson, Most Powerful Magician on Earth, originally written by Chad Kultgen and picked up by New Line and Benderspink Productions.

The story is based on an old familiar concept: A hotshot Las Vegas magician is threatened by the arrival of a younger, hotter talent on the scene. Is it just me or is this part practically screaming Will Ferrell's name?

Daley and Goldstein also sold a screenplay of their own, The $40,000 Man, and are rewriting a Disney comedy Hours of Fun. None of these movies have been released yet, so it's hard to know what kind of quality they're producing. But if Daley learned as much from Apatow as his co-stars seemed to, there's good reason to look forward to what he and Goldstein come up with.
