Mummy 3 Update

Things are moving forward on the much talked about third Mummy sequel, and the net is buzzing with news related to filming the movie’s awful script. Rachel Weisz is still out of the film (because she thought the script sucked too), but her character is very much in. So, they’ve found a Rachel Weisz replacement in Maria Bello.

Bello recently spoke to SciFi about being a replacement Rachel, and didn’t say anything good. It seems that not only is she taking over Rachel Weisz’s character, she plans on changing her into a completely different person. She says, “She has the same name, but she's a very different character than Rachel played.” But wait, she has the same name and she’s still married to Rick O’Connell right? Soo in the context of the script wouldn’t that make her the same person? What’s the difference? Bello says, “She's a bad-ass action chick. I had to train a lot. I had to do wushu, a martial-art form, some kickboxing, swordfighting, rifle training for a couple of months before we even started shooting.”

Maybe Maria missed the first two movies, because the character did all those same things when Rachel played her. Maybe what Maria Bello should have said is that she’s not as good an actress as Rachel so she isn’t up to the challenge of playing the character the same way.

Meanwhile, the first still from the film’s set has popped up online courtesy of director Rob Cohen’s corporate controlled, carefully supervised, Mummy blog. The image is from their mausoleum set. This would be from a set they’ll use at the very beginning of the movie, when Rick O’Connell’s now grown son Alex raid’s the tomb of a deceased Chinese emperor and unwittingly sets in motion the Mummy awakening events of the film. That’s the Emperor’s chariot in the middle, and he’s surrounded by an army of stone soldiers. See it below:
