Jason Segel’s Muppet movie has a director, and while it isn’t him, it’s the next best thing. THR says Flight of the Conchords co-creator James Bobin has been hired to light the lights on Disney’s new Muppet movie.

Bobin’s style should be a perfect fit for the film which, last we heard, was being called The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made. His HBO series Flight of the Conchords incorporated music with surreal sketches and dance numbers. Though Kermit is unlikely to bust out “It’s business time!” that’s exactly the sort of thing we expect from any good Muppet movie. Singing, dancing, and the occasional flying chicken should be a snap for Bobin.

The plot of the film has so far been kept a secret but Jason Segel’s script, which he co-wrote with Nicholas Stoller, is reportedly finished. The title is a reference to an idea Jim Henson came up with back in 1985 in which Gonzo directs a Muppet movie and blows half the film’s budget on the opening titles. Meanwhile, rumor has had it that the film will involve the Muppets coming together to put on a show which will save Muppet Studios from an evil oil tycoon.
