My Life In Ruins Will Close Tribeca

It kicks off in less than a month, but the Tribeca Film Festival is just now getting its schedule fully worked out. My Life in Ruins has been selected as the closing night film of the festival, and will debut on May 2, just a month before its June 5 nationwide release.

Tribeca co-founder Jane Rosenthal said in a press release, "This year’s Festival has a number of fun and light-hearted films for our audience to enjoy. We are delighted to bring them another crowd-pleasing film, My Life in Ruins, to celebrate our closing night."

That means Tribeca will be both opening and closing with a comedy (opening night is Woody Allen's Whatever Works), perhaps compensating for the inevitable heavy dramas and documentaries that will round out the festival. My Life In Ruins is the new comedy from My Big Fat Greek Wedding writer and star Nia Vardalos, about a woman who finds herself giving tours of Greece to old people and, I don't know, somehow falling in love in the process. We all know how these things go, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have the potential to make excellent mindless entertainment.
