Nicholas Brendon Calls The Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot A Mistake

It was fairly easy to predict, but people are not happy about the Joss Whedon-less reboot of the Buffy The Vampire Slayer series. The news came out last month that screenwriter Whit Anderson is currently working on a script that will bring the character back for the first time since the show ended back in 2003. Whedon already commented about the decision and now one of the show's stars is doing the same.
E! recently caught up with actor Nicholas Brendon, who played Xander Harris in all 145 episodes, and he didn't exactly have kind words for the reboot. Starting off with a joke about Twilight ("I hope their vampires don't glitter") he went on to speak more forthright, spilling his true thoughts about the idea.
"I think it's a mistake, I think that it's trying to kind of—they have to reach a whole completely new fanbase. And we already have that fanbase. So it's going to really be hard to kind of do that. But you know, everyone: They remade The Flintstones. Twice, I think."
I honestly wonder what, if anything, it would take to get Buffy fans to actually give the reboot a shot. As Brendon implies, every beloved franchise is going to go through this eventually - expect to see Harry Potter and Twilight to stroll around again in 20 to 30 years - but this is fairly quick, and without the franchise's creator, no less. People aren't happy and they aren't going to get happy any time soon.
