If you saw the ads for Scott Derrickson's Sinister and thought was just another haunted house tale, think again. From the film's first frame, this deeply freaky feature cuts its own path to terrifying audiences with truly disturbing imagery and a murder mystery plot that blurs the line between crime drama and horror, much like Derrickson's Exorcism of Emily Rose did.

Already we've seen a glimpse of Sinister's creepy antagonist Bagul in the film's green band and red band trailers, but in the clips and poster below, he's looking back. Just run your mouse over the image below:

Ethan Hawke stars as Ellison Oswalt, a failed fiction writer who found fame 10 years ago when he turned to true-crime books with his wildly popular book Kentucky Blood. But since then, Oswalt's follow-ups were let-downs, forcing him and his family of four out of their palatial mansion and into a small ranch house where Oswalt chases the ghost of lit celebrity with his most horrific concept yet. Nestled in a new small town with a police force already irked at his presumption he can solved their cold case, Oswalt investigates the bizarre murder of a family, hung from the tree in their own back yard. While he claims his intentions are noble, seeking to find the family's missing daughter, the fact that he's moved into the murdered family's home for grisly inspiration shows the unsavory lengths to which Oswalt will go for his next book.

Sinister hits theaters on October 12th. To learn more about this disturbing feature, check out our Blend Film Database.
