The Coen brother's The Big Lebowski is as close to a perfect comedy that I've ever seen. It's a film that blends a group of amazingly bizarre characters with a neo-noir plot line and never - even after thousands of viewings - loses its spark. But as great as everything is about it, it's also a perfectly contained story; it brings the viewer from point A to point B without leaving any dangling threads or questions. Because of this, a sequel will never be needed or made...but don't tell that to Tara Reid.
FilmDrunk recently discovered a video of Reid who plays the former porn star, Bunny Lebowski, in the 1998 film, speaking to Hollywood TV at the Comedy Club while "promoting awareness of child snatching and sex trafficking." When the reporter asked the actress about upcoming projects, she responds, in all seriousness:
Now, The Fields, The Irishman and American Pie 4 are projects that we have heard about in the past and can confirm the existence of. The Big Lebowski 2 is a completely different story. I don't believe anybody with a sound mind (mind you, I don't consider Tara Reid to have a sound mind) has ever believed that the Coens would make a sequel to their cult hit. What's even stranger is the confidence she seems to have while talking about it. The statement's timbre conjures images of a desperate agent trying to lure Reid back into coherence. "You have to get yourself together! We're shooting The Big Lebowski 2 next month!"
Only adding to the awesomeness that is this story, Austin 360 was able to get in contact with the Oscar winning writer/director duo and they seem plenty enthusiastic about it, even though they have no idea what the hell she's talking about. Said Ethan, when asked if they had anything in the works, "Well, we don’t but we’ll watch it when it comes out," to which Joel added, "Especially if Tara’s in it."
You can watch the video below, with Reid's comment about The Big Lebowski 2 arriving right around the 1:00 minute mark. It's quite the sight to behold.
