X-Files 2 Has A Title!

X-Files 2 has a title! No, it isn’t X-Files 2. Fox tells us they’re calling it The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

“I Want to Believe” was a slogan frequently used throughout the run of the television series. It appeared on a poster over Fox Mulder’s desk, and I guess it’s a natural fit as title, while being slightly less cliché than going with "The Truth is Out There".

It’s also no surprise that they’ve staunchly avoided throwing a number 2 in the title. Franchise creator Chris Carter has gone out of his way to position this as a stand alone movie, and not a sequel or a followup to any of his past work. In the official plot synopsis for the film (which contains very little actual plot) they describe the sequel this way: “It is a stand-alone story in the tradition of some of the show’s most acclaimed and beloved episodes.”

Look for The X-Files: I Want to Believe in theaters July 25th.
