The latest trailer for Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to debut online this Tuesday, April 15th, but tonight we have an early treat for you. As part of tonight’s MTV Movie Awards, 20th Century Fox has debuted a special clip from the new comic book movie, which you can watch above.
This is actually a clip from the footage that I got to see at CinemaCon last month, and comes from the very first sequence in the movie. Set in the future timeline, we see surviving mutants Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page), Colossus (Daniel Cudmore), Sunspot (Adan Canto), Bishop (Omar Sy), Blink (Fan Bing-Bing), Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) and Warpath (Booboo Stewart) hiding out in a bunker trying to survive a deadly attack. It's a quick view at some of the big new characters who are being introduced to the franchise and will ultimately play a large role in the film.
Based on a script by Simon Kinberg and adapted from the comic arc by Chris Claremont, John Byrne and Terry Austin, X-Men: Days of Future Past begins in a horrific future where mutants are being hunted down by giant robots known as Sentinels, created and programmed by Trask Industries to find and kill every member of Homo superior. The surviving members of the X-Men team are driven underground, but working together they develop a plan: using the powers of Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page), Wolverine’s consciousness is sent all the way back in time to his body in 1973 where he has to work to try and unite the young Professor X (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and stop a disaster that changes the world forever.
It’s strange to notice how quickly 2014’s selection of comic book movies are hitting theaters. Marvel Studios released Captain America: The Winter Solider earlier this month and in just a couple weeks we will get to see Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. That will be followed by X-Men: Days of Future Past on May 26th, and then Marvel will have Guardians of the Galaxy ready for us in August. It won’t be long until superhero fans are just waiting for 2015 to start, so enjoy this time while it lasts!
Be sure to come back on Tuesday to see the new X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer, and rewatch the spot that arrived online last month below:
