Lil Wayne Yanks Nicki Minaj Out Of Hot 97 Concert

Aggressive opinions might typically serve a DJ well, but depending on the situation, sometimes it’s better to just keep those thoughts inside. Yesterday, New York City’s Hot 97 held its Summer Jam for a crowd of fifty thousand. Unfortunately, the eager onlookers never got to see Nicki Minaj play because emcee Peter Rosenberg decided to bash one of the singer’s songs before she made it to the stage.

The Hip-Hop Squares host was introducing Kendrick Lamar when he decided to offer his opinion of “Starships”. Turns out he’s far from the biggest fan. You can take a look at his comment below, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly

“We’re all about that real hip-hop. I know there are some chicks in here waiting to sing along with ‘Starships’ later. I’m not talking to y’all right now. Fuck that bullshit.”

Whether Minaj herself was upset about the remark is unclear, but Lil Wayne was none too pleased with the editorializing. He immediately pulled all Young Money artists off the bill, which included Minaj, Busta Rhymes and DJ Khaled. Organizers eventually convinced Nas, who was there to guest during Minaj’s set, to take up the featured slot, and he reportedly performed alongside Lauryn Hill.

Rosenberg took to his Twitter to defend his remarks today, pointing out that he has nothing against Minaj except the song he doesn’t like. As for how the rest of Hot 97 felt, that’s unclear. You would have to imagine organizers weren’t pleased about losing so many acts, but there’s nothing that can be done about it now.
