Tom's Dad Was Just Signed On To The Blacklist Spinoff, And The Casting Is Perfect

Spin-offs are always a tricky prospect for a television network. It takes a talented ensemble of actors to capture the magic of the original show, while also doing something new with the established universe. But that doesn't necessarily seem to be a major issue for The Blacklist: Redemption, as the upcoming spin-off seems to have assembled a stellar ensemble to carry the torch of the franchise. We've just learned that Tom Keen's father will be portrayed by Lost's Terry O'Quinn in the upcoming Blacklist spin-off, and we could not be more excited about that.

Terry O'Quinn John Locke Lost

According to a report from EW, the upcoming The Blacklist spin-off has tapped Lost actor Terry O'Quinn to take on the role of Tom Keen's father. His character will be named Howard Hargrave, and he will be the owner of a Blackwater-esque private military firm that contracts the show's central cast. Based upon the given description of the character, it sounds like Hargrave will be an intense, tactical figure whose own sense of morality can lead to internal conflict with the shady nature of his business dealings.

If you have even a passing knowledge of Terry O'Quinn's career, then you likely already know that he's absolutely perfect for this type of role. He received critical acclaim for his portrayal of fan-favorite character John Locke on ABC's Lost, and even garnered an Emmy for the role in 2007. Much like Howard Hargrave, Locke similarly maintained a strong, stoic, and intelligent demeanor that made him endlessly endearing to fans of the series. If O'Quinn can deliver the same level of intensity that he brought to John Locke during his stint on The Blacklist: Redemption, then it's entirely plausible that the actor could have a new signature role.

The upcoming Blacklist spin-off pretty much takes everything that we already love about the original series and dials it up to eleven. Centering on a group of criminals from Red's (James Spader) list, the spin-off will follow them as they team up under the banner of Halcyon Aegis (Hargrave's fictional company) in order to accomplish dangerous missions and redeem some semblance of self-worth. It's a familiar premise, but it's also one that promises a ton of intense action and awesome set pieces. Bring on the spin-off, NBC; we are more than ready for it.
