With us already halfway through the month of September, now is the time where TV fans are almost shaking with anticipation. Because everyone's small screen adventures will be returning over the next few weeks. Chief among them is Shonda Rhimes' full night of television over on ABC, known as #TGIT. Scandal, How to Get Away With Murder, and Grey's Anatomy will all be returning for more drama, tears, and hookups. The latter is gearing up for its whopping 14th season on the network, and it looks like some new romances may be on the horizon, as well as the return of a long missing character. A new trailer for Thursday nights just hit the internet, and it teases just that. Check it out.
I'm. So. Ready. Let's break down exactly what the brief glimpses of Grey's teased on this trailer, and what we should expect when the long running medical drama once again returns to reduce its viewers to sobbing messes.
As far as new pairings go, it looks like Jackson Avery and Maggie Pierce may be an item in the upcoming 14th season. Both of the surgeons are definitely available, after their long gestating romantic interests didn't work out. Jackson and April's love is one of the longest and most tempestuous relationships of Grey's history. They each dated (or almost married) the wrong person, before finally becoming a full fledged married couple. And while they're currently navigating being co-parents and cohabitors, it looks like they've finally ended the relationship that just never seemed to truly work out.
Meanwhile, Maggie had been pinning over Nathan Riggs for the past two seasons, only to find out that her sister Meredith actually had her own friends with benefits/romantic connection to the newcomer. Maggie maintained that she's ok with how things went down, so now she may be open to a new partners.
Speaking of Nathan, things are going to get a bit more complicated in he and Meredith's budding relationship. Because the above trailer also featured what looks like Owen's long lost sister. While getting tests done at Grey Sloan Memorial, she asks Nathan if he's met anyone in the years since she went missing. It should be interesting to see how Nathan and Meredith navigate this situation. Meredith was extremely supportive in last season's cliffhanger, but it will presumably take a toll, especially since she just got her groove back.
The last big moment from the brief trailer shows the return of Kim Raver's Teddy Altman. Teddy left the hospital back in Season 8, and has the distinction of being one of the few surgeons on the show to depart Seattle without being killed off. She's set to return due to the plot regarding Owen's sister, and many fans can't wait for her long awaited reprise. It should be interesting to see if her feelings for Owen will return, especially now that he's married to Amelia.
Grey's Anatomy will return to ABC on September 28th, and be sure to check out our fall premiere list to plan your next binge watch.
