Nickelodeon's Legends Of The Hidden Temple Reboot Is Happening With Some Big Changes

As far as reboots and revivals go, sitcoms, television dramas and animated series have been at the forefront, and now another classic game show is getting the reboot treatment with a twist. Millennials can rejoice as the iconic game show Legends of the Hidden Temple is finally coming back to the small screen. But the adventure reboot will see some substantial changes to its format.
The CW announced the Legends of the Hidden Temple reboot on May 11. Given that it has been nearly three decades since new episodes aired, this reimagined edition of the iconic Nickelodeon adventure series will be the latest addition to the network’s ever-expanding alternative programming slate. The biggest change will be that the entire show will move from the studio to a larger outdoor jungle set. Along with an outdoor set, all the challenges will be tougher with bigger prizes on the line for each team. At this time, the game show reboot doesn’t have a premiere date.
With a larger set and tougher challenges, the adult version of Legends of the Hidden Temple will still hold on to the hallmarks from the original series. Giant talking head Olmec and team names – “Purple Parrots,” “Blue Barracudas,” “Orange Iguanas,” “Red Jaguars,” “Silver Snakes” and “Green Monkeys” – will serve as throwbacks to the original Nickelodeon series. Along with the traditional team names and Olmec, certain game elements, including the Moat Crossings, The Steps of Knowledge and the Temple Run, will remain intact. Just like the original game show, the CW reboot will go through a hero’s journey as five teams will vie for new prizes. It follows the same setup as the Nickelodeon series in trying to retrieve and return a lost treasure.
The game show reboot will be produced as a joint venture between Stone & Company Entertainment and Nickelodeon. Paradise Run (another Nickelodeon game show) producer Marcus Fox will executive produce the new adult Legends of the Hidden Temple along with original creator Scott A. Stone.
This isn’t the first time news has broken of a Legend of the Hidden Temple reboot. In 2019, original co-creator Scott A. Stone announced a reboot for adults would be coming to the now-defunct streaming app Quibi. At the time, the adventure reboot would’ve followed the same direction as the CW version. Unfortunately, it never came to fruition. Despite not airing any new episodes in almost 30 years since the original run of the series ended in 1995, Nickelodeon has continued to run the still-popular series across its various channels.
Hopefully, this Legends of the Hidden Temple reboot will go better than the 2016 television movie. After all these years, it will be nice to see new episodes of the classic series on the small screen once more. Mixing new and old elements will certainly make for some interesting television moments.
