Girlfriends' Golden Brooks Joins Hart Of Dixie

The CW’s Hart of Dixie has a new face set to appear on the drama’s sophomore season. Girlfriends veteran Golden Brooks has signed on for a recurring role on the series, where she’ll play a new friend to Zoe (Rachel Bilson) and also stir up some drama from the past.

Brooks will play Ruby Jeffries, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a former resident who comes back home. She’s a successful woman with a cutting wit who has a history with some of the other local residents, issues she’ll be forced to face on her return to town. It seems she and Zoe will be fast friends, however, in spite of whatever other problems she might have to deal with. That’s about all that’s known about her role, but we’ll be seeing her all season.

Girlfriends ran for eight seasons on UPN/CW, so Golden Brooks is returning to familiar ground here. She’s done very little TV work since the show ended in 2008, appearing in a few movies and doing one pilot, The Exes, for TV Land, ultimately not continuing with the comedy. Hart of Dixie got its renewal for season 2 back in May, although there had been some question as to whether or not it would earn another season.

In keeping with the CW’s late-premiere plan for fall, Hart of Dixie will begin its second season on October 2, 2012 at 8pm. It’s one of four series from Fake Empire, joining Gossip Girl, Cult, and The Carrie Diaries, which is set for a midseason appearance.
