Greek's Amber Stevens To Star In The CW's Time Travel Drama Pilot Joey Dakota

Among the promising cast of ABC Family’s dramedy Greek was Amber Stevens, who played the bubbly, often friendly Ashleigh Howard, BFF to Spencer Grammer’s Casey Cartwright. We haven’t seen much of her since the series wrapped up, though she is set to appear in The Amazing Spider-Man, and now it seems she’s landed a starring role in a CW drama pilot.

Deadline reports that Stevens is set to play the female lead in the CW drama pilot Joey Dakota. Described as a “romantic-time-travel-musical,” the drama is based on an Israeli show Danny Hollywood and follows Steven’s character Maya, “a documentary filmmaker who travels back in time to the 1990s where she meets and falls in love with the rock star subject of her film. When she unexpectedly returns to present day, she must find her way back to the past to reunite with her love and prevent his untimely death.”

It sounds a little bit ridiculous and a little bit awesome all at once. But I say this as someone who experienced the entirety of her adolescence in the ’90’s and would therefore love to see how the decade is portrayed, should this pilot go to series. I also think Stevens is fairly due for an opportunity like this and I’d love to see how she does in a starring role.

Also cast in the pilot is Leah Renee, who is set to play Kelsey, “a beautiful young movie star and one of Maya’s best friends.” Renee played the secretly-lesbian bunny Alice in the short-lived NBC drama The Playboy Club. Playing a gorgeous movie star seems like a fitting role for her.
