NBC Cancels Spy Series Undercovers

In what is a bit of unfortunate but not all that surprising news, NBC has opted not to order any more new episodes of their new spy drama series Undercovers.

The longer the series went without a full season order, the less likely it seemed it was going to get one and today the Hollywood Reporter posted the news that NBC made the decision not to order more episodes of Undercovers. They went on to say that there are three more episodes that will air in the coming weeks, with the remaining three produced episode airing at some undecided point in the future. I’m thinking they might sprinkle them out during the TV down-time around the holidays.

Undercovers was created by J.J. Abrams (Lost, Alias, Star Trek) and starred Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Boris Kodjoe. The series followed a married couple who were retired from their careers as spies but then pulled back into government work. Between Abrams’ involvement, the sexy cast and the fun premise, the series had a lot going for it from the start, so what went wrong here?

I’ll admit, I only watched the pilot episode of the series and having loved Alias (the early years, anyway), I had high hopes for Undercovers, but I found it to be a little too cute and not nearly as edgy as I hoped it might be.
