New NBC News - Get It?

NBC is having a fantastic Monday night this season, with ‘Heroes’ leading the way. The new show had its highest ratings ever, 16 million viewers, this past week. These numbers have recorded NBC 8 Monday night victories this season so far. Apparently, networks keep track of who wins what day the most; a venerable “mine is bigger” contest.

Also, the freshman show, ’30 Rock’ has been given new life. 3 more scripts were ordered early this week, according to TV.com. The show has been struggling, much like ‘Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip’ and ‘Friday Night Lights.’ The two latter shows have been picked up for the entire season. It seems that ’30 Rock’ is still hanging by threads.

The show was beefed up last week to 40 minutes, yet only corralled 5.2 million viewers. It will be interesting to see how NBC deals with the very mild success of the show. The star power with Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, and Tracy Morgan was expected to be enough, much like Matthew Perry, Amanda Peet, and Bradley Whitford were expected to pull ‘Studio 60.’

NBC is having an up-and-down year, ‘Heroes’ is invincible, ‘Lights’ and ‘Studio 60’ live on until summer and ‘Rock’ is on the chopping block. Life is hard for brand new shows on a top four network.
