The Odds Curb Your Enthusiasm Returns, According To Jeff Garlin

It’s been four years since the last season of Curb Your Enthusiasm aired on HBO, but the show was never actually cancelled. This is a show that exists when Larry David has ideas for it, and goes away when he does not. When and if he wants to do a Season 9, a Season 9 will happen. So what are the odds David will want to do more? According to co-star Jeff Garlin, the odds are better than even, but only just.

Variety’s Debra Birnbaum has been tweeting out various quotes and comments during this week’s TCA summer tour. Today, while attending a panel on ABC’s The Goldbergs, Garlin made the following comment regarding the chances that Enthusiasm may come back.

If Vegas has a book on this that’s a pretty serious change in the odds. Last December, David gave the odds of a return at 6-to-1, so if we take Garlin’s comment as realistic we’re now at slightly better than 2-to-1. You won’t make as much, but your odds of winning just went way up.

The good news for fans of the series is that we can all be confident that if the show ever does return, it should be worth it, as proven by another Garlin quote from TCA. As noted, it’s not like the brain behind Seinfeld needs the paycheck.

For just that reason, we are inclined to believe Garlin when he says a return has a decent chance. If David was dead set against another season, there would be no reason for the man to act otherwise. Whatever he has done or said to give Garlin the “51 percent” indication is probably legit. Having said that, 51 percent is still a long way from “pretty pretty pretty good.” What’s more, even if another season does see the light of day, it could still be sometime--even years-- before that happens.

So add this to today’s list of “shows that might be back, maybe, but possibly not.” We’ll be thrilled to see another season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, but we will keep our enthusiasm suitably curbed until we’re sure it’s happening.
