Scifi Channel Greenlights New Series: RelicQuest

It was announced today that SciFi has greenlit production on a new unscripted series that will search the world for famous historical relics and artifacts. The working title for the new investigative adventure show is RelicQuest and from the sounds of it, the series will be along the same lines as Destination Truth, in terms of searching for the truth behind myths and legends. Obviously, in the case of RelicQuest, the series’ focus is on mythical relics.

Set to serve as the guide in the series is documentary filmmaker Bruce Burgess. Here’s SciFi’s description:

“RelicQuest is an action and adventure series that travels the globe in search of some of history's greatest relics and artifacts. British filmmaker Bruce Burgess guides the viewer in a first-hand exploration down mysterious roads to uncover objects fabled to hold hidden powers and mystical significance for both ancient and modern cultures."

Among the things Burgess will investigate is the story of Moses and what really happened on Mount Sinai. Burgess will also trek through the ruins of Montsegur Castle to see what he can find about the Holy Grail of the Cathars, which is said to have healing powers.

I think it’s great that Scifi is branching out with their unscripted series. From Ghost Hunters to Destination Truth and now this new series, it’s exciting to see the network digging deeper into some of the myths, legends and potential haunting and paranormal activity from all over the globe.

SciFi has committed to six episodes of the show, the first of which should premiere in early ’09.
