Early last month, Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter tweeted (as he so often does) that the thirteenth episode of Season 4 was “HUGE." He went on to say, "Literally, it's like 112 pages right now.” I know I wasn’t alone in hoping this would result in a supersized finale, as opposed to Sutter having to cut 75 pages from the script, as mentioned in his tweet. As good fortune would have it, we’re not getting a bulked up finale, we’re getting a whole extra episode!

The Hollywood Reporter posted the news this afternoon, stating that FX ordered a 14th episode for Season 4, which will close out the season on Tuesday, December 6th at 10:00 p.m. FX executive VP original programming Nick Grad says, “Kurt asked us to consider adding an extra episode to fully close this current chapter of the Sons saga. By adding the extra episode, it wraps up a magnificent season in extraordinary fashion. This is a real bonus for fans of the series.”

So, it appears we have Kurt Sutter’s determination to see the season ended properly to thank, as well as FX’s generosity in tacking on one more episode to cap off what is turning out to be a pretty solid season for the biker drama. It’s also the highest rated season yet, bringing in 5.45 million viewers.
