TV Recap: Big Brother 10 - And The Final Two Are...

I’m not going to lie. I know its lame but I felt almost giddy as tonight’s live episode of Big Brother started. It’s been such a great season and since I’ve been rooting for Dan and Memphis, it’s been easy to enjoy the two guys plow through the house week after week, all the while keeping the houseguests unsure as to just how tight their arrangement was. So needless to say, I was really happy with everything that went down in tonight’s episode.

After Keesha was evicted, Dan and Memphis kept up their charade of being angry with each other. They wanted to keep Jerry thinking that neither would take the other to the end, perhaps hoping that he would feel secure that they would both take him to the end that he wouldn’t try so hard in the final HoH competition. Jerry bought the act, saying the diary room that the rift between Dan and Memphis could be a good thing for him if he doesn’t win the final HoH.

Dan and Memphis talked smack to one another while standing on the airplanes during the endurance competition. When Memphis brought up his fraternity house, Dan asked if he stabbed his frat brothers in the back. All the while, Jerry stood there between the two just trying to hang on to the ropes. He didn’t last long though and toppled off his plane leaving Dan and Memphis to stand off against each other.

According to Dan, the plan was for Memphis to throw the competition but eventually, Dan started to struggle. He expressed frustration about this in the diary room, saying he couldn’t figure out why Memphis wasn’t falling. Memphis, who did eventually drop, explained his hesitation, stating that he wanted to make sure it looked real. He didn’t want Jerry to suspect that he was throwing the competition.

For the second HoH competition, Memphis and Jerry performed separately in a timed event. In the boxing-themed competition, there were full-sized cut-outs of each of the houseguests set up in a row. The contestants had to start from the first week and “knock out” all of the houseguests except for the HoH from that week and the two people up on the block during that week’s eviction night. A fair amount of speed and a good memory were required for this competition.

Memphis had a hard time remembering who was on the block each week but he made up for a few mistakes by moving quickly as he punched out each houseguests’ cut-out and rang the bell. Jerry had similar problems remembering the order of things and what he lacked in memory, he lacked even more in speed. When the times were revealed, Memphis’ time was eight and a half minutes. Jerry finished in just under an hour. Had Memphis even considered trying to throw that competition to Jerry, he would have probably failed. But Memphis wasn’t throwing any competitions anyway. Sure, he was probably confident that both guys would take him to the end but there’s no sure thing like winning for yourself.

After Memphis won the second part of the HoH competition, he and Dan celebrated in private in the spa room. It looked like Big Brother went out of their way to make Jerry look foolish because following Dan and Memphis’ silent jumps for joy and secret-handshake, they cut to Jerry, pulling down his shorts, revealing his tighty-whities for all of America to see. I almost felt bad for the guy. Almost.

We got to see Keesha’s entrance into the Jury house. Before she walked in, Michelle was beyond excited over getting to tell whoever walked through the door about Dan’s trip. She assumed Dan wouldn’t tell anyone that he met with her on the beach. She was mostly right as Dan had held this information back from everyone and only told Keesha as she was literally on her way out the door. Dan explained to the diary room that he wanted to be totally honest with Keesha and hoped that she might help him secure Michelle’s vote (which explains his “Finish it.” remark).

When Keesha arrived, April and Michelle, despite being inwardly happy that she was evicted, both looked like wanted to scratch her face off. Keesha, who appears to have replenished her make-up supply, came in all smiles and gave Renny a big hug. Michelle prepared to make the big reveal about Dan’s trip, saying “I know a lot…” and Keesha smiled, cutting her off and saying she knows about the trip Dan took with her. Keesha didn’t say it in a way that suggested she was in any way annoyed or upset by the news and that took the wind right out of Michelle’s sails. Interestingly enough though, while both Keesha and Michelle seem to realize that Dan was working them for votes, neither seemed irritated or put off by it in any way. If anything, both seemed a little impressed by the strategy.

Renny expressed irritation about being in the Jury house, saying it sucks but she’s keeping her head up about it and in typical Renny form, is making the most of the situation. April is insanely bitter. You would think a couple of weeks of relaxation would’ve cooled her off but apparently not. Not only is she still angry at Keesha but she’s also convinced that Dan or Memphis would take Jerry to the final two and she doesn’t like that cockiness. She said she’d vote for Jerry to win. April’s in for a surprise as I don’t think Dan or Memphis ever seriously considered bringing Jerry to the end. April and anyone else who agrees with her theory have grossly underestimated Dan and Memphis’ intelligence (which could explain why Dan and Memphis are still in the house) if they think either of those guys would’ve been foolish enough to try and win next to Jerry.

For the final competition, which took place during tonight’s live show, the jurors were asked questions regarding feelings they had about some of the things that happened in the house. Renny’s question had to do with which she was most irritated by, Jerry washing his dentures in the sink or Jessie disrespecting her on national television. Dan guessed right, knowing Renny probably hated the dentures thing more than Jessie’s lack of respect. One of the questions they both got wrong was Ollie’s, in which he answered that he regretted letting his heart get in the way of his game more than he regretted trusting Dan. Trouble in paradise for April and Ollie? Or perhaps Ollie thought answering unpredictably could slip-up one of the contestants. Who knows? (who cares?)

Dan got ahead of Memphis and stayed ahead, winning the competition and securing himself the final HoH spot. It should be noted that Memphis made it to the final two without ever having won a Head of Household. Jerry and Memphis each had a chance to state their case to Dan in the hopes that he would pick them to go to the final two with him. Jerry brought up the fact that he never broke his word, then mentioning the time he broke his word to Brian but that was a “forced issue.” Memphis, who was sporting a red bandana on his wrist (Renegade pride!) gave a quiet speech, throwing in something about seeing if Dan is a true Renegade. This was just as amusing to me as the time Dan mentioned the word Renegade during his nomination speech a couple of weeks ago. I think it was all Dan and Memphis could do to keep from laughing at that point.

Dan didn’t make a big show when he evicted Jerry. Though I doubt he expects to get Jerry’s vote, I think he realized it wouldn’t be wise to call Jerry out and make him feel foolish right before he sent him to the jury house. Instead he just said he hoped he could be as good a competitor when he’s 75 years old. Jerry was then evicted and once he walked out the door, Dan and Memphis did some more jumps for joy.

When Julie asked Jerry why he thought Dan took Memphis to the end after the things Dan and Memphis were saying to each other following Keesha’s eviction, Jerry said he thinks they had a great ride together, spending a lot of time in the pool and went on to say he’s not sure it wasn’t even a plan to do it. It seemed like it had just dawned on Jerry that Dan and Memphis might never have been mad at each other to begin with. The chuckles from the audience behind him may have confirmed his suspicions. Jerry thinks Dan made a big mistake in picking Memphis because he thinks he’ll be the deciding vote. I’m not so sure about that. I don’t think it’ll be a sure thing either way seeing as both Memphis and Dan have friends and enemies on the jury but I’ll be surprised if it came down to Jerry, who will most likely vote for Memphis unless someone convinces him that Memphis’ friendship with him wasn’t sincere.

Jerry got a bit teary when Julie asked him how he did in the game. He said he did himself and his family proud. For a 75-year-old man, I have to say, he made it pretty far. I wasn’t the biggest Jerry fan but that had nothing to do with his age and I do hope we see more older contestants in the house in future seasons.

We’ll find out whether Jerry votes for “Judas” or the “womanizer” on Tuesday night’s finale. Sunday night is a clip-show featuring various moments from the season.

Fans can vote in this poll to give their favorite player on the jury a shot at a $25,000 prize. I’d like to see Renny or Keesha take that one. Renny for being so entertaining and Keesha because, well I just feel bad that she got evicted instead of Jerry and I thought she handled herself well afterwards.

As for the final two, this is the first time I’ve ever been really happy with both of the players who made it to the end. I’d love to see Dan win the whole thing but Memphis has played a good game so I wouldn’t be too disappointed if the jurors favored him. I think a lot of it is going to come down to how they represent themselves before the jury prior to the finale. Regardless of who wins, the Renegades Alliance will surely be remember by Big Brother fans for seasons to come. These guys both played excellent individual games and they succeeded in “using” each other in their alliance to further themselves in the game. Plus they were entertaining. So thank you, Renegades for that!
