TV Recap: Big Brother 11 - Week 3 Nominations

Alright, I’m going to put aside the fact that there isn’t just one but two girls vying for Jessie’s affection. Some girls like big, beefy guys with big, beefy egos, so let’s look beyond that enough to question how Jessie can possibly be so clueless as to his involvement in the situation with Lydia and Natalie.

As Kevin so eloquently put it, “Lydia’s into Jessie. Natalie’s into Jessie. Jessie’s into Jessie.” Let’s look at some of the love-triangle segment we saw tonight: Jessie spends time cuddling up with her on the hammock and being all flirty. She barely notices when he cuts her off as she’s talking about angels and people coming into her life. Later we see them out on the couches behind the house. Lydia wants a kiss on the check and Jessie, obviously not willing to take it to pre-first base by getting a little lip-to-cheek action going on, kisses his hand and puts it on her cheek. Aw, how cute. Then Natalie comes outside. Lydia gets up to get a drink and while she’s gone, Jessie tells Nat to lay down where Lydia was sitting. Lydia comes back out and doesn’t hide her irritation as she finds a new seat. Cut to Jessie massaging Natalie and being all touchy-feely with her right in front of Lydia. My guess based entirely on what was shown in tonight’s episode, is that Jessie likes Lydia flirting with him but he doesn’t want anything more than that. Either he’s more interested in Natalie or at the very least, is more comfortable with his situation with Natalie than he is with Lydia, who’s making most of the moves here. I also think having two girls ready to scratch each other’s eyes out over him is only going to inflate his ego even more.

Love triangles aside, the episode did include some actual game footage. While Casey, Jeff and Jordan still want Ronnie out the door, the rest of the house is either indifferent or wavering on that whole plan. Russell secured a secret deal with Ronnie before last week’s elimination and Natalie’s on board with Jessie, who doesn’t see the benefit in targeting Ronnie as he’s currently allied with him.

Casey clearly didn’t learn from Laura’s mistake. Last week after Ronnie got HoH, Laura went around declaring Ronnie the house rat, thus making herself a big target. This week, Casey decided to make it clear to Natalie that Jessie’s already a target because he’s a returning houseguest and because he’s so athletic. He went on to say that going “against the house” by not working to get Ronnie evicted would only make his situation worse. Now, if Casey had sat down with Jessie face to face and explained his perspective on the situation, I think Jessie might have taken it into consideration but Jessie hearing this from Natalie only made Casey look bad.

In the end, Jessie nominated Jordan and Michele, whose attempts to warm up to Jessie obviously didn’t work out that will. Jessie did say in the DR that he was hoping the Veto would be used so he could backdoor his real target, which I’m guessing is Casey. Ronnie gloated in the DR that his situation is good. Granted, he’s probably right but still, let’s not get cocky, Ronnie. Isn’t that what got you into trouble in the first place? His sloppiness is also still a problem. Post HoH competition, Kevin caught Ronnie muttering “Thank you, God.” after Jessie won, which tipped Kevin off that Ronnie’s more secure with Jessie and the athletes than it might have appeared at the time. Seriously, the guy can’t even whisper to himself without getting caught.

As for the episode filler, the houseguests participated in a new Have/have-not competition with a racing theme. The worst part was listening to Jessie imitate a southern accent as he hosted the event, which involved three houseguest riding around on electric keg-carts and trying to get giant ice cubes into big metal cans. The object was to have the least amount of cubes in your clique’s can at the end, so throwing a cube into another clique’s can was preferable. Jordan had trouble with this but in the end, it was the Brains who lost out, having at least one more cube in their can than the Off Beats.

In addition to slop, the Brains will get to feast on as much cabbage and cocktail weenies as they can stand, thanks to America’s vote. Ronnie declared that he loves cocktail weenies but let’s see how he feels after a week of burping the taste of hotdog.

Will Michele or Jordan be saved by the Veto? We’ll find out this Tuesday. I think the bigger issue will be what Jessie decides to do if the Veto gets used. If he puts Casey up in one of the other houseguests place, how bad will the repercussions really be? If Casey goes, Jessie only has to worry about Jordan and Kevin being mad at him and neither of them seem to pose a huge threat right now.
