We learned earlier this fall that Colton Haynes was planning an exit from MTV's drama series Teen Wolf, reportedly due to failed contract negotiations. At that time, not only were we left to wonder how his exit would affect the series, but also to speculate what the actor might do next. Today comes word that he's joining the CW's Arrow.

TV Guide reports that Haynes has signed on to play the role of Roy Harper in the CW's superhero drama Arrow, with his arrival at the series happening at some point in 2013. Roy Harper has appeared in the DC Comics that serve as the basis for the CW's series, and was Green Arrow's sidekick Speedy. Later aliases include Arsenal (when he joined the Teen Titans) and Red Arrow.

TV Guide says the Arrow version of Harper is described as "a handsome, street-savvy, teenager from 'the Glades,' the harsh, poverty-stricken portion of Starling City." He'll also serve as a love interest for Thea (Willa Holland). He'll meet her in an "unexpected way" and he's " destined to become a significant part of her life and an important player in the larger world of Arrow."

Haynes' TV credits include The Gates and Look, but he's probably best known for playing Jackson Whittemore in MTV's Teen Wolf. His departure from the series likely came as a surprise when news broke about it last October, so it's good news for his fans that he's found another genre show to settle into. His spot on Arrow is a recurring role for now, but it sounds like it's a significant one, and who knows what might happen, especially when factoring in how long the character has been around in the comics.
