Wilfred Preview: Season 2, Episode 3 - Guilt

Last week's Wilfred was one of the series most stylistically conventional and narratively straightforward episodes but it may have also been the funniest. ”Dignity” featured Ryan stuck dealing with self-confidence issues and trouble standing up to authority figures, while Wilfred struggled to find new material for his stint as a stand-up comedian. Sorry, an 'office dog.' The office also provided Wilfred another set to structurally ground the show as well as a location to introduce characters and explore relationships without forcing any situations or leaving encounters to 'happenstance.'

That may make the series sound a bit more 'sit-com-y' but in the end, a little more structure might be for the best because the more they ground the series in something familiar, the more opportunities they have to warp that vision in future episodes. That is, of course, all dependant on how much Wilfred uses the office. On this week's “Guilt," according to the official synopsis, "Ryan must prevent Wilfred from waging war against an unlikely foe." The unlikely foe? Take a look.

Why am I not surprised that Wilfred's foe is an unborn baby. I guess he's pro-choice. When Ryan's overbearing sister Kristen (Dorian Brown) returns fully pregnant, Wilfred must inform his owner of the ongoing war between dogs and babies... over who is the cutest. Once again, Wilfred'a attention issues are brought to the forefront but the preview doesn't hint at what will be Ryan's real problem will be this episode since the solution for keeping the dog at bay was pretty simple.

“Guilt” airs Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on FX. Wilfred stars Elijah Wood, Jason Gann and Fiona Gubelmann.
