Assassin's Creed: Memories Brings Card Battle Killin' To iOS
Itís time to once again step through the pages of history and, you know, murder all kinds of crooked politicians and such, as GREE, Ubisoft and PlayNext unveil Assassinís Creed: Memorie, an upcoming free-to-play game heading to iOS.
Heading to iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, Assassinís Creed: Memories mixes RPG elements with a card battle and strategy system to create a once in a lifetime gaming opportunity. And by ďonce in a lifetime,Ē I mean dozens of lifetimes, because players will be jumping into a brand new mobile Animus device in order to join assassins on their various quests throughout history. Youíll build a guild, equip them with the best gear, adopt powerful new allies, then use all of those resources to destroy your rival players.
Slated to release later this summer, Ubisoft Mobile Divisions Managing Director, Jean Michael Detoe, said that fans of the Assassinís Creed games can expect to see a lot of familiar aspects of the series introduced in whole new ways.
ďThe card battle genre has been hugely popular around the world and GREE and PlayNext have demonstrated their know-how and expertise on such games,Ē explained Detoe. ďWith such expertise, we really believe theyíre bringing a great new way to enjoy the richness of the Assassinís Creed universe to mobile platforms.Ē
In Memories, players will return to some of the Assassinís Creed seriesí most memorable (hyuck) locations, including Colonial America and Renaissance Italy, as well as some new eras and locations to experience. Along with a single player campaign, the game will offer a multiplayer system that allows for up to 20 vs 20 matches. Thatís a heck of a lot of wrist-blades. Customization and various tactical approaches will also be a big focus, meaning players will be able to craft their killing sprees around the way they want to pay the game.
ďThe card battle genre is all about being able to evolve and grow great heroes and this franchise has created some of the most epic characters in gaming today,Ē said GREE social games VP, Eiji Araki.
PlayNext Chief Operating Officer, JT Nguyen, agreed, saying his team looks forward to ďcapturing the excitement and beauty of Assassinís Creed,Ē and plugging it into a brand new game for players to enjoy on mobile devices. The game will also make an appearance at San Diego Comic Con next week along with other Assassin's Creed related material, including a parkour course that Ubisoft is setting up at the event, which you can view in the promotional trailer below.
For some additional details, be sure to check out the official announcement on the Ubiblog. In the meantime, go ahead and ponder the awesomeness of that image above, and what it would be like if in, say, the next console Assassinís Creed game, you were allowed to recruit a team from throughout history and go on a rampage in 3D. Yeah, pretty rad, right?
