Ever wish that someone would make an MMO set in the real world that depicts the complex problems facing our society? Well, that's not what Blizzard's making.

On LinkedIn, Blizzard is looking for a 3D Character Equipment Artist for their next-gen MMO. The position requires you to have "2+ years game development experience modeling and texturing sci-fi and fantasy character armor and weapons for next-gen art pipelines." So yeah, don't bother applying if you've only got experience in designing 3D models of fashionable men's wear.

The next-gen MMO's designer, Jeffrey Kaplan, was asked by MTV Multiplayer last year whether the game was "sci-fi, near-future, post-apocalyptic or historical." He sarcastically replied, "All of the above!" Guess he was just giving false hope to those of you hoping for a Victorian era MMO of sensibilities, though. Cruel, cruel man.

Blizzard has said in the past that their next MMO won't replace World of Warcraft, so don't expect WoW 2.0. A Blizzard community manager stated in May that it will be a new franchise built from scratch. Considering sci-fi and fantasy encompass basically anything one could imagine, there's still plenty of possibilities.

Update: Added link to Blizzard's quote about the next-gen MMO being a new franchise. It's an important distinction because it means that it won't be a Diablo or StarCraft MMO. The StarCraft: Ghost art stays, though, because I'm a sucker for futuristic power armor with a visible ass crack.
