June 2010 NPD Sales Report: Red Dead Redemption Rides Again

Last month North American video game software and hardware sales declined compared to June 2009. However, there's cause for several companies to celebrate.

Red Dead Redemption racked up close to a million in sales in its second month. It's now the highest selling game this year to date. On the hardware side, all three consoles experienced increased sales. The Xbox 360 had its best non-holiday month since September 2007, time of Halo 3's launch.

The decline from last year is due to software and portable hardware sales. Last June the DS sold about 250K more units, perhaps due to the DSi launch a couple months earlier. Tiger Woods 11 sold a mere 32% of the amount it racked up in Tiger 10's first month.
