The Last Of Us Video Shows Cinematic Process
Curious what the process stages look like from capturing the live-actors in mo-cap for a game to the final phase in the game? Well, Naughty Dog and Sony give a brief look at the process in a quick video trailer that shows 24's Anna Wersching in the role of Tess interacting with the lead character Joel in a dramatic cinematic set piece.
Naughty Dog has garnered quite a reputation for bringing Hollywood quality entertainment values to their properties and it looks like they're maintaining that rep with vicious ingenuity in their I Am Legend meets Omega Man mash-up. The Last of Us looks pretty stunning but I'm still curious about those vegetable zombies...we haven't seen much of them but I imagine we'll get a taste of more as the release draws near.
The game itself is about Joel and Ellie, two survivors in a sort of post-apocalyptic setting trying to survive renegade bandits, vegetable zombies and other horrors in a very realized setting. The gameplay mechanics are very similar to Uncharted but the story and characterizations are what really tie the whole thing together. Joel doesn't have an unlimited supply of ammo, he's not a superhero and he can't mow down hordes of bad guys. The game is a tense and rigid affair of cinematic survival that has yet to be portrayed in gaming the way Naughty Dog has done it with this game.
You can look for The Last of Us to launch in the spring of 2013, exclusively for the PlayStation 3.
