Stoic Studio's The Banner Saga is such a beautiful game. It succeeded as a brand new IP on Kickstarter with just a few days of campaigning, hitting its goal of $100,000 and then some, going as far as $723,886 at the end of its run. Stoic has decided to keep backers up to date on the progress of the game by releasing a new video which showcases the game's rotoscoping animation process (which is extremely impressive by the way), a tidbit of the soundtrack teaser from composer Austin Wintory, the same bright mind who brought us the undeniably moving soundtrack to thatgamecompany's Journey, as well as a first-hand look at the game's turn-based combat system.

The eight-minute video details everything from the special reward bonuses to high-tier backers to the game's animation process and everything else in between. This game looks gorgeous and I can't wait to play it. Check it out below.

It's so, so impressive that the game looks so fluent and has such an adhesive connection between the art-style and the flow of the combat. It reminds me a little bit of Ralph Bakshi's work, who made rotoscoping stand out with such flair and poignancy in movies like Fire & Ice and American Pop.

The Banner Saga's development is coming along nicely and the game is scheduled to release first on PC and Mac with possible console and mobile ports potentially arriving at a later date, depending on the sales.
