Armie Hammer Rises From The Dead In Lone Ranger Trailer
A curious bit of genre bending has been emerging in Hollywood. The superhero movie trend has had a side effect I don't think many of us anticipated. With the success of that genre, studios have been eager to spin other memorable characters, from Snow White (Snow White and the Huntsman) to Santa Claus (Rise of the Guardians) into superheroes, complete with tough and icon looks and flashy new adventures packed with action. Of course, as a cowboy, The Lone Ranger has always been a hero and action icon, but his latest incarnation in Gore Verbinski's Lone Ranger makes him so much more.
The big budgeted action-adventure from Disney stars Armie Hammer as the titular masked man, and features Johnny Depp as his Native American sidekick Tonto. With a frenzied collision of grand set pieces, train robberies, and glimpses of the movie's buzzed about action sequences, the first trailer had plenty of panache but little in the way of plot. Now the feature's second trailer gives us an introduction to the premise of a man meant to become a legend. And there's even more action on display. I have to admit, the first trailer did nothing for me. But this one actually gives a sense of the humor that the filmmakers have promised would be a part of this adaptation, as well as giving some insight to the characters. While Depp's pidgin dialect still makes me wince, Hammer's Ranger is already taking shape. He seems a noble man with a painful past who must forgo his identity to fight for justice. So basically, he's the Batman of the Wild West. That works for me.
The Lone Ranger arrives in theaters July 3 2013. More information can be found in our Blend Film Database.
