Breck Eisner In Talks To Direct The Last Witch Hunter
Perhaps it's because the Harry Potter franchise is about to end and people will be upset that there won't be any more wizards, it appears that Hollywood is taking a hard stance against people performing magic spells. First Paramount announced that they would be re-imagining a classic fairy tale with Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, and now Summit Entertainment is setting up their own magic killing project.
Deadline reports that the studio has purchased a pitch titled The Last Witch Hunter from Priest scribe Cory Goodman and is currently eying Crazies helmer Breck Eisner for the director's chair. The story centers on a protagonist who, as the title would suggest, is the only one that stands between witches and the rest of the population. After he gets wind of a plan that will allow the witches and warlocks to repopulate, he assigns himself to stop them.
While the idea sounds pretty cool, that title has to go. Between the aforementioned Hansel and Gretel and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, there are far too many movies on the horizon with "hunter" in the title. A line needs to be drawn somewhere and should be the location.
