Charles Swan III, the character that Charlie Sheen plays in his latest comedy, is really just a riff on Sheen himself, right? I mean, he’s playing a Hollywood-based graphic designer who’s life falls apart after the love of his life leaves him. But it’s all just a glorified excuse for Sheen to keep the meta, national joke at this own expense going, isn’t it?

That’s what I got out of the red-band trailer for A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, a nudity-laden spoof of Sheen’s demented mind. Even the conventional trailer basically featured a litany of celebrity co-stars telling Sheen’s character he’s unlikable, self-centered and detestable. So yeah, more of the same. And the new poster for Roman Coppola's comedy lays Sheen out like he’s in a floating casket, hovering over downtown Los Angeles. Subtle.

Coppola writes and directs the film, his first endeavor since the quirky 2001 film CQ with Jeremy Davies. I’m sure Sheen will fit right in to this inquisitive drama. And the good news is that you don’t really have to wait to see Charles Swann if you don’t want to. The movie is now available on VOD ahead of its February release, and might be worth renting just to see Sheen interacting with the likes of Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman as they wait for the next Wes Anderson movie to roll around.

The cast also boasts a ton of entertaining support players, from Aubrey Plaza and Mary Elizabeth Winstead to the remarkable Patricia Arquette. But really, it’s Sheen’s show. Are you interested?
