MOVIE NEWS
Direction: Possible! Several sites are now reporting that Brett Ratner is on board to direct the next outing of the Mission Impossible franchise, so there's at least a decent chance that it may be true. While I was never happy with the series tendency to abandon the team mentality of the series to make it a one man Cruise ego-trip, I really enjoyed the heck out of the first movie, even of John Woo's take for the second one was a horrible, slo-mo driven disastor.
To me, Ratner doesn't seem to be such a bad choice for the floundering franchise. Movie snobs everywhere I'm sure are already out thumbing their noses, but whatever bad rep the snarky Ratner haters give him, he's a pretty capable director in the right situations. He never gets enough credit for Rush Hour, and though he'd have been totally wrong for Superman, I think this just might be the kind of project he can create something fun out of. Isn't that all we need from Mission: Impossible? Maybe he'll give us a nice blending of the intelligence of DePalma's original movie and the big explosions of John Woo's... minus the stupid doves. ![]() Got questions? . SUBMIT A SCOOP |
