After hitting theaters in a diverse trio of films in 2009—ranging from the flashy space adventure Star Trek to the Judd Apatow dramedy Funny People and the sci-fi-fueled romance The Time Traveler's Wife--Aussie actor Eric Bana became far more selective in his choices. 2010 went by without an appearance from Bana, then in 2011 he awed audiences with his physically demanding role in Joe Wright's critically celebrated assassin-centered fairytale Hanna. Later this year, he'll front the heist thriller Deadfall, and in 2013 will continue his streak of thrillers with the latest from John Crowley.

When the project was first announced last February, it didn't have a title, but did boast Bana and rising star Rebecca Hall (Vicky Cristina Barcelona) as leads. Now Variety reports the film, described as an international thriller, not only has a name but also a release date. Called Closed Circuit, the feature will focus on two former lovers (Bana and Hall) who find their loyalties called into question and their lives on the line once they are united as a the defense team for a contentious terrorism trial. Focus Features will debut Closed Circuit domestically on August 28th, 2013; at present, it is the only wide release slated for this date, though the Weinstein Company's Satanic will follow on August 30th.

Closed Circuit is an original screenplay penned by Steven Knight, who wrote the David Cronenberg crime-thriller Eastern Promises. The film's cast includes Riz Ahmed (Four Lions), Jim Broadbent (Cloud Atlas), Kenneth Cranham (Made in Dagenham), Anne-Marie Duff (The Last Station), Ciaran Hinds (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and Julia Stiles (10 Things I Hate About You
