Judy Garland's Wizard Of Oz Dress Could Fetch $500,000 At Auction
The Beverly Hills based Julien’s Auctions is world famous for offering beautiful and highly sought after pieces of authenticated memorabilia, but rarely has the service listed a more famous and celebrated costume as the one set to headline the upcoming Icons & Idols sale next month. On November 9 and 10, curators of museums and people who are just filthy rich will have the chance to bid on Judy Garland’s original pinafore and blouse from The Wizard Of Oz.
A presale estimate put together by Julien’s cites the item’s worth as falling somewhere between $400,000 and $600,000, but as anyone who regularly attends auctions will tell you, there’s no telling what might happen if two motivated bidders refuse to back down. There are a lot of Wizard Of Oz fans out there, and assumedly, some of them have a ton of money. You can take a look at a specially prepared segment about the iconic dress below…
In addition to the beauty above, the two day extravaganza will feature more than eight hundred items including Steve McQueen’s racing jacket, Elizabeth Taylor and Eddie Fisher’s marriage certificate, Christopher Reeves’ special effects Superman costume from Superman IV and pieces of souvenir wedding cake from the unions of Diana and Prince Charles and Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Some of the items are only expected to fall in the high three digit range or low four digit range; so, if you’re short on funds and excited about participating, you can probably make that happen. Just don’t get excited and take a run at Garland's dress. I would be shocked if that beauty left the shelf for anything less than $500,000.
