After nearly 20 years of making poor/excessively mediocre movies, director Rob Reiner really surprised me in 2010 when he directed Flipped. In addition to its interesting structure - telling the same story from different perspectives - it was a nice piece of family-friendly flair and actually quite sweet. What it means for the future of Reiner's career I don't know (could he get back to his early days when he made movies like Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, and This is Spinal Tap?) but at the very least it does make me more interested in The Magic of Belle Isle.

The film stars Morgan Freeman as a wheelchair-bound writer who searches for a way to reignite his passion and finds it when he begins a relationship with a single mother (Virginia Madsen) and her daughters. You can watch the trailer below and in HD over on Apple.

The film also stars Madeline Carroll (who starred in the aforementioned Flipped), Kenan Thompson, and Fred Willard. It will be distributed by Magnolia Pictures and be released on Video On Demand starting June 1st and will be available in theaters on July 6th.
