Paranormal Activity 5 Gets A Release Date
Despite the fact that the fourth installment earned by far the worst reviews of any movie in the franchise and had the weakest opening box office since the first, the Paranormal Activity series is still alive. Shortly after the last one's release Paramount Pictures announced that not only would we be getting a fifth film, but also that they would be making a Hispanic spin-off as well. We're not entirely sure when the latter title is going to make its way to theaters, but now the studio has given a date to Paranormal Activity 5... and it won't surprise you in the slightest.
Just as they have for the last few years, Paramount will be releasing their new horror film right before Halloween on October 25, 2013, according to Box Office Mojo. While things could and likely will change between now and then, the only current competition the movie will face is the Edgar Wright apocalyptic comedy The World's End, which reunites the director with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. That said, it will face some very stiff competition in its second and third weeks, as both Ender's Game and Thor: The Dark World will be out in the first weeks of November (but it should be a big deal given that movies in the series tend to take 60-70% drops in their second weekends anyway).
Here's the million dollar question: how little would a Paranormal Activity movie have to make in order to end the franchise? While the last one was a disappointment, bringing in only $135 million worldwide, that doesn't change the fact that it was monstrously profitable because the film was only made for $5 million. It's a question that we could be asking ourselves for a long time.
