T4 Moves Forward

Well it’s official, Terminator 4 is happening, and whether that makes you happy or sad probably depends on whether you were wise enough to embrace last year’s Cameron-less T3.

Variety reports that Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines writers John Brancato and Mike Ferris have finished up a first draft of the T4 script with a little help from T3 director Jonathan Mostow. Warner Bros. isn’t wasting any time, and production is already slated to get rolling in 2005. With Arnie still playing governator in California, that probably means he won’t have much of a place in the film beyond a cameo.

Maybe a Terminator movie without the presence of Arnie will irritate people, but personally I’m happy to see the franchise move beyond that. T3's fantastic ending sort of moved the storyline BEYOND the Terminators and right now I’m more interested in seeing how John Connor unites humanity in a post-apocalyptic future than repeating the same old Terminator hunts John Connor, Terminator helps John Connor storyline again.

While Mostow isn’t exactly signed on as director yet, Intermedia plans to begin negotiations to bring him on board soon. A good move since despite a few nay-sayers, T3 really was a surprising success. With Mostow in charge, I really don’t need any more of Arnie. Let’s move on. No word yet however on whether Nick Stahl and Claire Danes will reprise their roles.
