New Trailer For Silver Linings Playbook Turns Up The Crazy
Former indie ingénue Jennifer Lawrence started off 2012 strong, ably fronting the box office behemoth The Hunger Games and proving she has the kind of broad appeal and acting chops to be a mainstream leading lady. But before Hollywood attempts to pigeonhole her as a YA-only performer, she's taking to the screen in a more mature role in David O. Russell's upcoming dark comedy The Silver Linings Playbook, where she plays a young widow opposite Bradley Cooper's unstable protagonist, whose struggling to get his life in order after his wife's infidelity led to his mental breakdown.
The feel-good rom-com tone of the first trailer earned the feature some early scorn, as some suspected O. Russell was following up his Academy Award-winning drama The Fighter with something light and unworthy of his talents. However, when Silver Linings Playbook made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month, the buzz was immediate and overwhelmingly positive. Sean declared it "dark and manic" as well as a lock for Oscar notice; Katey deemed it a likely contender for Best Picture. And hot off the heels of winning the People's Choice Award at the festival, the Weinstein Company has unveiled trailer #2, which plays down the quirky romance elements, and plays up the craziness of its flirting with disaster characters. Between it's growing buzz and a cast that not only boasts Lawrence and Cooper, but also Chris Tucker, Animal Kingdom's Jacki Weaver and Robert De Niro, The Silver Linings Playbook has a lot going for it. And yet what has me most intrigued by this trailer is the more thorough look at Cooper's performance, which seems to unleash the intensity he has shown in his more dramatic roles in a comedic context. There's something fascinating about his spastic dance on the border of sanity. How will it play out? We'll find out when The Silver Linings Playbook hits theaters November 21st and to see more from the movie head over to our Blend Film Database.
